Entrepreneurs Need Capital to Grow Their Business

Bootstrapping

Before you ask others for capital, they are going to ask what you have put into the business first; be prepared to show you have more than just an idea.

Government Programs

Always start with the basics, signup for your local innovation programs, incubators, and accelerators. The BDC, EDC, Economic Development, etc…

Pre-Seed

After you have exhausted your initial capital options, depending on your capital requirements you can explore your friends and family potential to create runway and advance your business place. At the Pre-Seed stage you are working on MVP (minimum viable product) and PMF (product market fit); you will need proof moving to the Seed stage. Pre-Seed range is $50 000 to $500 000.

Seed Round

With MVP (minimum viable product) and PMF (product market fit) you can begin conversation with early stage investors that believe in you and your idea; mostly they need to believe in you and your team. Seed Range is typically $100 000 to $2 000 000.

Series A

Typically this means you are now generating a million dollars or more in annual revenues, proving your business model, proving your product market fit; and now you need growth capital to seize market share and disrupt new markets. Series A Rounds vary wildly from Canada to US to Europe and are typically led by venture capital firms and sometimes institutional investors for tens of millions.

Series B, C, D

This stage is just like series A but larger.
